On Friday the 28th of October 2011, a delegation of 16 staff members from TOPTICA Photonics visited the laboratories of the Rempe group at the MPQ. The TOPTICA members – ranging from technicians to sales assistants – wanted to take this chance to see their products “in action” in a scientific lab. They were impressed by the complexity of the experiments, which cover fundamental studies of atom-light interaction in optical cavities, ultra-cold atomic ensembles, quantum interfaces and quantum memories. In all these experiments, TOPTICA lasers play an important role, but they are only a small part of the whole setup: all kinds of optical components fill large optical tables and state-of-the-art electronic controls laser beams and the experimental sequence. Every day scientists have to face new technical challenges. Therefore, it is crucial for the success of the projects that such an integral part as the laser system runs stable all day and night – every day! With this in mind, the TOPTICA members will continue to do their best in order to meet these requirements.
