CCQED at national Launch Event for Horizon 2020 in Berlin

On 28/29 January 2014, the new European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020, was introduced in Berlin. From all European projects coordinated in Germany, 8 “success stories”, among them CCQED, have been invited by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to present their research and network activities.

The launch event, which took place in the Berlin Congress Center, was attended by about 1000 guests from politics, research funding agencies, research institutions, industry and press, including high level speakers like the German Federeal Minister for Education and Research, Johanna Wanka, and EU-Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn. Horizon 2020 covers a period of 7 years and supports research and innovation in Europe with almost 80 billion Euros. Talks mainly focused on new aspects of the framework programme and the relationship between national and European research funding.

The CCQED exhibition stand had an exposed position next to the entrance area in the foyer and received a very postive feedback. Thanks to the support of our partners, we showed a fiber cavity setup (University of Bonn), a 3-qubit 3-cavity chip (ETH Zurich), a cavity with ion coulomb crystals (Aarhus University), an optical cavity (MPI of Quantum Optics), a TA pro Laser (Toptica Photonics) and an optical reference system (Menlo Systems). Partner institutions, research groups and fellows were presented through a slide show on a big screen, the CCQED brochure (download here) and a presentation on two Macs.

Visitors showed great interest in the research exhibits and asked us about the network activities, the partner institutions, and about the Marie Curie funding scheme.
